Western Dressage discipline is a melding of training methods. Classical Dressage brings the techniques of master European horsemen, techniques that are hundreds of years old and based upon principles which encourage cadence, balance, and carriage. It is technical and it is precise, a rigorous discipline for horse and rider. It is also an art. Western Horsemanship has been practiced on the ranches of the American West. Mounted Games is a branch of equestrian sport, which, at its highest level, displays a variety of very fast relay races performed by excellent riders on well-trained ponies. The sport is exciting for participants and spectators alike. Combined driving is designed to test a Driver's ability as well as the horse's obedience, speed and athleticism, in three demanding phases with a carriage in tow: Driven Dressage, Marathon, and Cones. The sport, conceptualized by the late Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, is modeled after the mounted equestrian discipline of three-day eventing or the human equivalent of a triathlon. As we wanted this competition to include our very special disabled riders, we have added a "Special Equestrian" Division to both our Dressage and Working Equitation Classes.
Subjectively judged, the modern show ring hunter pays homage to its history, exhibiting the traits desired of a good field hunter— calm disposition, good manners, smooth gaits, steady way of going, and pleasant and efficient jumping ability— but must do so with style, presence and superior technique.
Jumping enjoys its place, both nationally and internationally, as one of the most popular and perhaps most recognizable equestrian events. At its highest competitive level, Jumping is recognized as one of the three Olympic equestrian disciplines alongside both Dressage and Eventing.
